Resin driveway costs explained

A straightforward price guide using Cheshire Design’s confirmed figures, with an honest explanation of what can move the final quotation.

The short answer

Prices at a glance

These figures include VAT and are the typical prices confirmed by Cheshire Design. They are useful starting points, not fixed packages. The exact price depends mainly on the condition of the existing base and the preparation required at the property.

“Single” and “double” describe how the driveway is commonly used, but they are not exact measurements. Two double driveways can have different areas, access arrangements, drainage requirements and base conditions.

That is why an accurate resin driveway quotation follows a site visit. The area must be measured and the structure beneath the visible surface must be assessed before the work can be priced properly.

Why we are not publishing a price per square metre

A square-metre figure can make two very different specifications look comparable. Excavation, base repairs, drainage, access and edge details can materially change the total even when the visible areas are similar.

What changes the price

What affects your quote

The following factors should be assessed during the survey. Their relevance and cost will vary from one property to another.

The existing base

A sound base may reduce the preparation required. Movement, cracking or poor levels can mean more material has to be removed and rebuilt.

Size and shape

The total area matters, but tight corners, narrow sections, curves and several separate areas can also affect labour and material use.

Excavation and access

Restricted access, difficult spoil removal and the distance between the working area and the mixer can change how the project is organised.

Drainage and levels

Falls, channels, thresholds and the direction in which water needs to move must be resolved before the finished surface is laid.

Edges and details

New restraints, contrasting borders, steps, ramps and recessed covers add useful detail, but they also add work and materials.

The chosen finish

Aggregate colour, stone grading and availability can affect material cost. The final choice should be confirmed before ordering.

What the survey resolves

Why the base matters

The site visit establishes what can remain, what requires repair and what needs to be removed. It also identifies drainage, levels, edges and access before a written scope is prepared.

Comparing quotations

Compare what is included

A quotation should make it possible to understand how the existing driveway will be treated and what work is allowed for before the resin is installed.

1

Removal and disposal

What existing material is being removed, what is staying and how waste will be taken away.

2

Base preparation

Whether the quotation allows for repair, an overlay or a newly constructed base.

3

Drainage and levels

How water will be managed and how the finished level meets the house, pavement, garage and garden.

4

Edges and fixed details

The treatment of perimeter restraints, steps, channels, thresholds and covers.

5

Resin finish

The selected aggregate, intended use and visible area included in the price.

6

VAT and guarantee

Whether VAT is included and what written guarantee applies to the proposed installation.

Possible additional permissions

Dropped kerbs and permissions

A new vehicle entrance or dropped kerb may require a separate application and cost. National guidance also treats permeable front-garden surfaces differently from traditional impermeable paving over five square metres.

Check the requirements for the property before work begins. See the government guidance on permeable front gardens and the relevant local authority’s dropped-kerb information.

Common questions

Questions about pricing

Are the prices on this page inclusive of VAT?

Yes. The typical figures of around £7,000 for a single driveway and £9,000 to £12,000 for a double driveway include VAT.

Can I get an exact resin driveway price over the phone?

An initial conversation can establish the likely scope, but an accurate quotation requires the area, base, access, levels and drainage to be inspected at the property.

Does an existing tarmac or concrete base make the job cheaper?

It can, but only when the base is suitable for the proposed system. Cracks, movement, poor drainage or incorrect levels may mean it needs repair or replacement.

Why do resin driveway quotations vary so much?

Two quotations may describe very different amounts of excavation, base preparation, drainage and edging. Compare the written scope rather than the final figure alone.

How quickly will I receive a quotation?

Cheshire Design measures the area on site and aims to send the written quotation within 48 hours of the visit.
