The service

A driveway built from the base upwards.

A resin bound driveway is a mix of washed, kiln dried aggregate and clear resin, mixed before it is laid and finished by hand. The result is a continuous surface with the appearance of natural stone but without loose gravel moving under tyres or collecting at the pavement.

The finish is only the final layer. Long term performance depends on the condition of the existing drive, the depth and stability of the base, drainage, edging and movement joints. We inspect those details before recommending an overlay or a full excavation, then explain the specification in the written quotation.

Why it works

Why homeowners choose resin bound.

The visible finish is only one part of a successful installation.

Finish

A seamless finish

Bound stone creates an even surface around curves and parking spaces, without loose gravel moving under your tyres.

Drainage

Designed to drain

With a suitable permeable base, water can pass through the surface. We assess drainage as part of your survey.

Daily use

Ready for daily use

The base, aggregate and laying depth are specified for regular parking, turning and everyday use by domestic cars.

Clear scope

What your quote includes

The quotation sets out the work needed for your property rather than hiding preparation inside a single square metre price.

  • A site survey covering levels, access, drainage and the existing surface
  • Written advice on overlaying, excavation and the base specification
  • Edging details around pavements, planting, walls, garages and drainage channels
  • A chosen resin aggregate blend mixed and hand finished on site
  • Clear curing guidance, aftercare information and the written guarantee

The process

How we install a resin driveway.

Every job follows the same four stages, although the amount of groundwork depends on what is already there.

  1. Step 1

    Survey your driveway

We measure the drive, check levels and drainage, then discuss the base, edging and your choice of finish.

  2. Step 2

    Prepare the base

We remove unsuitable material, strengthen the base and secure the edges before preparing the surface for resin.

  3. Step 3

    Lay the resin

We mix dried aggregate and resin in controlled batches, then hand lay an even finish at the specified depth.

  4. Step 4

    Check and hand over

We check the finished surface and explain curing times, aftercare and the written guarantee before you use it.

Finish and detail

Colours, borders and drainage

Colour matters, but it is not the only decision. The edge, relationship with the house and transition to the pavement affect whether a new driveway looks considered or simply resurfaced.

We bring the practical decisions into the survey so the final specification works with your parking, front door, planting and drainage as one scheme.

Honest guidance

How much does a resin driveway cost?

A typical single driveway is around £7,000 including VAT. A double driveway is usually £9,000 to £12,000 including VAT. These are honest planning figures, not a quote for every property.

The main cost difference is underneath the resin. Excavation, waste removal, base construction, drainage, access and edging can move the price more than the aggregate colour. We measure on site and provide a written quotation within 48 hours.

Useful answers

Questions about resin bound driveways.

Straight answers to the questions we would expect to cover during a survey.

Example of a completed resin surface
Can resin be laid over my existing driveway?

Sometimes. Sound tarmac or concrete can provide a suitable base if it is stable, correctly shaped and free from movement. Cracked, soft or poorly drained surfaces need repair or removal first. We inspect the whole area before recommending an overlay because covering a moving base will not solve the underlying problem.

How long before I can drive on a new resin driveway?

Curing time depends on the resin system, temperature and weather. We provide job-specific guidance at handover. As a practical rule, the surface is usually kept free from vehicles for around 48 hours. Walking access may be possible sooner, but only after the installer confirms that the surface has cured sufficiently.

Do weeds grow through resin bound driveways?

A correctly prepared resin surface does not contain open joints where established weeds normally root. Windblown seeds can still settle in dirt at edges or shaded areas, so occasional sweeping and cleaning remain worthwhile. Persistent growth usually points to accumulated debris, damaged edging or a problem below the surface.

Is a resin bound driveway slippery?

The surface is textured rather than polished, and an appropriate aggregate blend provides useful grip in normal conditions. Any external surface can become slippery if algae, moss, leaves or ice are allowed to build up. Sensible falls, regular cleaning and careful winter maintenance help the driveway remain safe.

How long should a resin driveway last?

A well specified resin bound driveway can provide many years of service, but lifespan depends heavily on the base, drainage, installation quality and vehicle use. That is why our survey focuses on the construction below the finish. We support qualifying installations with a written 15 year guarantee.
